My writing process
My process is to go through several brain-storming sessions until I have the basic idea of a book’s outline, characters, and setting, which I call the pre-outline step. This can take anywhere between a couple of weeks to several years.
Then, I prepare the character profiles, setting notes, and outline, which is the outline step. This generally takes me about a month or two.
After I have a completed outline, I write the book, in the writing step. This results in the first draft. This may take up to a year.
Then, I go through several editing and rewriting phases, depending on how bad that first draft is. It will be called the editing or rewriting step, depending on the level of junk I need to fix. This step can take anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
After that, the book goes through a proofreading step, which should take about a month or two.
Finally, I prepare the book for publishing, in the publishing step. This includes ebook creation, final formatting, front matter, prologues, etc., and shouldn’t take more than a month.
The book should be published right after that.
Also, it should be noted that at this time, I am not a full-time writer. I am a full-time freelancer, and write my personal projects as much as I can, whenever I can, between projects for clients. My services are outlined in the main site.
